In case you're not fully sensitized to the special energy of a new moon period, start thinking of this as your monthly "New Year," the time when it's easiest to make a fresh start. People who keep journals usually find that the entries they make around the new moon are the most hopeful and optimistic, because, whether they "believe" in this stuff or not, they still respond to the energy unconsciously!

If you need to put an end to an unhealthy or draining relationship, stop a bad habit for good, or withdraw energy from something that just isn't working for you anymore, you'll find that the new moon is a great time to do this.

It's easier to "be good" around a new moon and to connect with all that is most spiritually ideal, pure, and powerful. Metaphysicians, priests, priestesses, and magical practitioners have long known that the new moon is a wonderul time to do rituals and to set in motion any changes they wish to make in their lives.

That's why writing a new moon abundance check can be so useful. You are doing something symbolic (invoking the power of the subconscious mind) and combining it with a physical task (writing yourself a check, in alignment with the materially-focused aspects of mind.) When you work with both the subconscious and the conscious, the right and the left brain, the Higher Self and the lower self - that's when real magic can open up in your life.

You're simply tapping into vibrations of abundance that exist in waveforms all around you - only, sometimes, you're not permitting them to come into your life. But by writing yourself a new moon abundance check and setting some clear intentions about what you want to receive, you're directing these frequencies towards you.

And sometimes they arrive in ways you'd never expect.

My Own Abundance Story

I've only been working with new moon checks for a few months. The first month, even I doubted their effectiveness. It was more of a self-doubt issue, really. I wasn't sure that my body would be willing to receive material abundance through this particular ritual, even though I always feel abundantly connected to the world of Spirit, of God/Goddess/Great Spirit. I just didn't know if I'd be able to translate this sense of abundance into monetary form using the financial instrument of a check from my bank.

The first month, I only observed a very small improvement in my finances. But that's when I became inspired to take full ownership of this issue in my life. I started to get revved up about it. I began doing things on the physical plane to market my business better, and while I had tried many of these same things before and experienced zero results, this time I mentally tied them to the writing of the abundance check. I remembered that I had already set my clear, unbending intent around improving my finances, and I thought about the check as I went about my marketing efforts. I allowed myself to feel hopeful, expansive, and filled with gratitude for the financial changes I knew were about to come into my life.

Adding a spirit of gratitude, a sincere, heartfelt, thankfullness, is an important piece of any new moon work - or any "magic" or prayer work, for that matter. If you are already experiencing gratitude about that which you are about to receive, your entire nervous system starts behaving as if you already HAVE received the object of your desire. You feel it in your bones, the concrete, 3-D reality of it.

And that's when reality shifts happen - almost simultaneously, occuring at those exact times when you truly FEEL the reality of your desires being made manifest. Call it applied faith, if you will, the same applied faith that is taught by the more gifted teachers of the world's religions. (Although this piece of spirituality, that "metaphysical tech," the "power prayer," is largely ignored for some reason. You'd think it would be the main area of emphasis, but it isn't!)

Each month, I continued to work with new moon abundance checks. If I didn't receive the amount I had written for the prior month, I simply pulled the check out and re-energized my intention around receiving that amount of money or better. I know that it can take a while to work through energy blocks around money, so I was determined to focus on transforming those barriers and self-created limitations until the money finally started to flow to me in easy, happy, and entirely appropriate ways.

Abundance carries into many other areas of our lives besides the financial aspect. I found during this period that I began dreaming big, thinking about larger goals in my life. These weren't all related to money. Some of them were involved with the expansion of the "brand" I've trademarked, the Lipstick Mystic brand. I was interested in getting greater exposure for it and even thought it would be fun to be featuredin the mainstream media. I already have a syndicated column that runs in a lot of wonderful arts weeklies, but it's rare for someone like me to break into the mainstream press. I remember thinking "It would be cool to get on the front page of a major daily newspaper."

I added my daydreams about this idea into my thoughts around abundance, tying them in to my overall feelings of expansion and gratitude about all that was flowing my way (or was about to flow my way!)

By the end of the second month, I discovered that I had received the amount that I had written in my very first abundance check two months previously. After that, I soon increased my income by about 33%. Then the amount kept increasing. At the time of this writing, I have managed to double my monthly income from the amount I was making when I wrote my first new moon abundance check. The money is flowing in in a variety of ways. Long overdue payments are flowing in, I'm making more sales with my business, and I'm receiving new writing gigs, and some donations are flowing into my website, too (always a welcome thing to us self-publishing types!)

As an interesting sidenote, I also manifested what I had been daydreaming about - I landed on the front page of the Times of Trenton, one of two major daily newspapers in central New Jersey. You may have already seen the article referenced on my home page here at my site. It was fun being quoted on a subject I care passionately about (increasing the public's awareness of how genuine spiritual practitioners, psychics, and healers are very different from the charlatan "gypsy" types who are always getting arrested.) And the article also mentioned my Lipstick Mystic brand. So I was very pleased that many of the things I had been mentally associating with being abundant - an abundance of media coverage, an abundance of positive press - was starting to unfold in my life as I began working with the new moon abundance checks.

So now I've learned to be very open to receiving abundance in whatever form it wishes to present itself! This journey has been really exciting and fun, and I encourage you to experiment with this simple ritual, too. You are invoking the power of God/Goddess/A Higher Power/the power of the subconscious/the energy of your angelic helpers and spiritual guides to help you to move beyond your usual money "zone" and open up to receiving a greater supply of financial abundance.

Don't Quit Your Day Job - Yet!

Doing this ritual doesn't mean that you should quit your day job. And it can be hard to win the lottery or receive a huge windfall through gambling, because our spiritual growth generally requires us to give something in exchange for the money we are receiving. But it's not impossible to win the money in a fun, amazing, way. It's best to pledge a certain percentage of your money in the form of a "tithe" to ensure that level of "win," so that there is an appropriate exchange of energy. That way, you're not expecting "something for nothing." You're prepared to give X in exchange for Y. I've done this several times with slot machines, winning a thousand dollars at a time and giving a percentage to charity. That seems to work very well for me. (I'm gradually working my way up to receiving bigger amounts. So when I win that million dollars, you'll be the first to hear about it!)

If you don't receive the amount of money you have written down on your abundance check within 30 days, you may have simply chosen an amount that takes a little longer to receive. Or you may still need to work through some blocks around this process. But don't give up!

I didn't give up, and I'm glad! Plus, I'm receiving lots of feedback from readers who are also having fun with their new moon work. One reader manifested "cowabunga" abundance, and I think her example is one that we can all learn from. I've stolen her terminology for this article, because I think the word "cowabunga" carries just the right vibration of joy and expectation of miracles.

Each of us is born with the innate ability to tap into an infinite supply of abudance, which may manifest in the form of people donating their services or goods to us, or it may manifest in the form of actual dollars/Euros/pesos showing up. It may even take the form of past due payments arriving out of the blue, long after you'd given up on the person paying you. And, as I found with my recent mention in the newspaper, abundance can also manifest in the form of experiences that you truly desire and have joyful hope about. Abundance is all about making your dreams come true - and, perhaps more importantly, giving yourself permission to manifest them!

"Cowabunga" abundance is the energy we ride in on when we enter into this life, because it is the true energy of the higher realms where our spirits originate. Learning to translate this same vibration of spiritual abundance into a material form (goods, services, or money) is a challenge, but it's not an impossible one. It's all about learning to be more conscious about how we manage and direct energy.
