As
a follow up to my other article about new moon abundance
checks and focusing your intention on manifesting greater
flow in all areas of your life, I wanted to share two
more responses from readers. This first person had an
interesting, albeit contrarian, perspective on the manifesting
of abundance. She has apparently linked the idea of
manifesting abundance with manifesting LOSS of abundance –the
exact inverse of what writing a new moon abundance check
is all about!
This
is more common than you might think, as we’ve
often made vows, oaths, and spiritual agreements in
this or past lives which can get in the way as we try
to manifest greater abundance for ourselves. In many
traditions, including those that involve serving in
various churches or religious sects, it’s been
common to take on vows of poverty, suffering, and obedience
and to tie this into our spiritual path. So we learn
to equate being spiritual or being a good person with
not having any money. When these programs are in place,
it can be really important to release those old vows
and agreements because otherwise, we’ll be bumping
up against these old programs whenever we try to expand
our material possibilities. Every time we try to push
ahead financially, we can end up manifesting a reversal
without realizing that that’s what we’re
doing. It’s sort of a “two steps forward,
three steps back”conundrum. This may be what happened
with this reader. Here is her story:
“I
read your article last month. I decided to write myself
an abundance check and left the amount up to the universe.
It worked! I had $800 stolen from me within 2 weeks.
I had to work extra hard during that time to make it
up.
"The
way I see it is that EVERYTHING has a price. Energy
seeks a balance - we do live in a dual polarity universe.
I assure you - all those who receive abundance through
your check writing exercise will have something taken
away or have to "pay" in some way in the future.
My karma is always instantaneous. I only "lost" $800.
I truly wonder how may of those who write to you with
success will (or have) let you know how this has manifested
for them down the road - what their payment was. Thank
you for providing me with an exercise that proved to
me that what I have been working with for many years
is still valid. $800 was a small price to pay for that
validation. I do feel for those who follow your advice
- there is again - a price one has to pay for ignorance
too!”-- end letter
Contrary
to this woman’s particular experience, working
on aligning yourself with the abundance of the universe
does NOT go against universal law or incur "bad
karma." Neither must it cause you to suffer a financial
loss. However, if we truly believe, on a subconscious
level, that money must be equated with suffering, or
if we have a stronger program running within us that
receiving money must involve loss of some kind, what
she describes here can happen. Her story is an excellent
reminder that we need to work on releasing those blocks
if we really want to be successful with those intentions
that we’re setting.
It’s
useful to start invoking to release all past life or
current life vows of poverty, suffering, and obedience
surrounding your money issues. You can invoke God/Goddess/Great
Spirit or whatever aspect of a Higher Consciousness
that you believe in, and simply set the intention that
you permanently release all vows of poverty, suffering,
and obedience that you have made throughout time and
probability, that you release them completely from your
system and from all of your energy bodies. You can envision
a divine violet or gold flame sweeping through you,
purging your system of those vows, which are sometimes
accompanied by negative entities that have formed themselves
over time as attachments to your system. (Negative entities “feed”on
fear, depression, and suffering, so they will often
be hooked into these vows as they sit as overlays within
our energy bodies. These energies can really hamper
your belief that financial well-being is possible, so
it’s good to release those critters, too!)
Sometimes
you also need to dig a little into your family tree,
examining the lineage that you were born into, the parentage
that you grew up with, and release any programs, mind
controls, or thoughtforms that you absorbed from them
surrounding money. Many of us have deeply held subconscious
patterns that equate money with suffering. Unfortunately,
we live in a world system that currently has the programming
of setting us up to believe that receiving money must
involve “soul loss”or the loss of dynamic,
joyful, and creative energy from our lives. It doesn’t
have to be this way. This universe is an infinitely
abundant one, and it’s up to us which frequencies
we wish to align ourselves with. I know what I'm talking
about. I've been self-employed for most of my adult
life and have only ever done work that fills me with
joy, sparks my creativity, and engages my sense of play.
I've sort of lived outside the "system" and
have learned a lot about how it traps people into certain
deeply entrenched thinking patterns. But these patterns
CAN be released.
You
can invoke to start releasing these patterns. Start
focusing on beliefs that you know you absorbed from
your family members. This may include actual phrases
that you were indoctrinated with such as “If you
work hard, you’ll have money.”“Working
hard”implies soul loss, the loss of dynamic energy
from your system. Not very fun, is it? Why would you
want to manifest more money if it involves pain and
suffering?
Then
there’s “Good guys always finish last”or “It’s
easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.”That’s
a common one. We have a lot of structures within our
religious teachings that tell us that money is evil
or that acquiring money is somehow out of alignment
with being on a spiritual path. And it’s important
to raise your consciousness to embrace a higher, more
refined level of understanding, otherwise you'll never
break free of that psychic quicksand. It will just keep
sucking you back in.
I
think it's helpful to ask yourself what kind of God/Goddess
are you busy believing in –one who supports you
energetically, who wants you to express all of the abundance
that lives within you and help you to manifest it on
all levels of your being –or a God who is a God
of punishment, of lack, of suffering?
In
my experience, the Divine is an energy of infinites,
not an energy of conditional love. But I have to admit
that it took me a while to fully embrace that level
of understanding and to begin tapping into the abundance
of the Universe on a greater level, because I had to
release many old blockages myself. I believe we are
all "works in progress" in that regard. But
great shifts can and DO happen, and improvement can
be manifested by each one of us.
This
reader above writes about the law of polarity, that
you have to give something in order to get something.
It CAN be helpful to tie your abundance check writing
to a tithe. Tithing is when you say, “In exchange
for X, I will give Y.”“In exchange for the
$1000 I am about to receive, I will donate three healing
sessions to people who need them.”“In exchange
for that $20,000 that I am going to receive, I will
give 10% to my favorite charity.”All of this can
be very helpful, because it helps satisfy that part
of us that sometimes acts as saboteur, blocking our
ability to receive without guilt.
But
it’s not always necessary. It’s nice, and
spiritually, being generous and sharing your money or
your time is a good thing. But if you’re manifesting
a real “inverse”situation like the reader
above, it’s usually a sign that there are some
deeper blocks at work, more profound levels of programming
that haven’t yet been disabled. I truly do hope
this reader will continue working on her abundance issues
and not blame this check writing process for the fact
that she lost $800. If anything, the exercise showed
her where her blockages were. Maybe $800 was too much
for her to ask for, so her self-sabotage mechanisms
kicked in. But if she tries a smaller amount, say $100,
and she really feels good about it and doesn’t
feel that this is an inappropriate amount that violates
spiritual law, then I’m sure she will receive
it.
Now,
here is the case of a reader who had a completely different,
100% positive, experience. He not only asked for a large
amount, but he tied the receipt of this amount to a
specific project he had in mind –one which he
felt really excited and good about.
“So
here's my story. During the September full moon, I had
read your suggestion and wrote my check in confidence.
I picked a sum that 1) felt right 2) would confirm my
intentions (not too big or small) 3) be useful. I picked
$10,000, an amount big enough to demonstrate synchronicity,
performed a small ritual and folded up my check and
put it away. The day after the next full moon, the gentleman
and friend for whom I worked walked into my office and
asked me to go next door for a coffee. We do this often.
This time he wanted to talk about various side projects
outside of work (internet stuff), so I mentioned a few
web site names I had registered and the various ideas
behind them. My friend, who is a CEO and venture capitalist,
asked how much I needed to launch a site. I said a few
thousand dollars. "I'll write you a check for $10,000." There
you have it. What I love about this story is that the
universe not only figured out a way to make stuff happen,
but she did it in a very cool way. The check is not
just a free and clear check, it has conditions specifying
its use; in this case, starting a business. Now, if
the universe had just given me the money, my friends,
acquaintances and I would have probably drank, ate and
smoked it within the weekend! As such, this gift of
abundance happens to perfectly align with my life's
goals while simultaneously motivating me to follow said
goals. Reality is fun! Warm regards, J.”-- end
letter
See
how very different J’s experience was? He was
careful to align his intentions with a project instead
of just waiting for the money to be delivered through
thin air, with no conditions attached. And this money’s
arrival flows along perfectly with his desire to start
a business, since he’ll be putting some real effort
behind utilizing this money, thus helping him to feel
that he “deserved”it –and deserves
even greater money flow once his business gets going.
My sense is that he has set things up in such a way
that all will go well.
We
all have certain monetary “set points,”boundaries
around receiving money. For some people, $800 seems
way too much, an amount that they really don’t
feel right about receiving. But I wonder if reader number
one would have felt better if she had tied the receipt
of $800 to a specific tithe, such as doing healings
for people or donating some of the money to charity.
Deep down, she was severely blocked around receiving
this amount, but I know that she can work through it,
if she continues to work through her blockages. Tying
the receipt of money to providing services or work may
well be the key to helping her to manifest successfully.
Money
is one of the greatest challenges we face in this life,
so it’s good to keep in mind that abundance sometimes
wants to find us in ways other than financial ones.
In my prior post, one of my readers manifested $300
worth of heating oil after writing an abundance check
for $300. So in her case, she may not have been ready
to receive the $300 as cash just yet, but she did receive
it in the form of material goods of an equal amount.
I
remember many years ago when I first started working
with abundance issues. I decided I would manifest $200
so that I could buy a new typewriter. (That dates me,
doesn’t it? I was still using a typewriter!) I
really needed a new typewriter to continue my part-time
work as a freelance writer, so it wasn’t just
some idle amount that I was focusing on. It was very
specific. As I focused on my intentions, I set the conditions
that however the money might arrive that it would be
spiritually appropriate, and that whoever gave me the
money would be entirely positive about sharing this
money with me. (I didn’t want to earn it through
anybody’s loss or suffering.)
A
couple of weeks after I set my intentions, I went to
the post office. There I noticed that someone had left
a wallet. The postal employees had already left for
the night and the post office box lobby was the only
thing that was still open. I saw no one around who might
have left the wallet. It had ID in it, so I figured
I’d take it home and call the person so that they
could come by and get it.
For
some reason, it didn’t even cross my mind that
this had anything to do with my wish for $200. I was
just glad the wallet had ID in it so that I could return
it to the person.
After
I got home, I found that the wallet had $800 in cash
in it, all hundred bills. I remember thinking, “I’m
glad I found this because this looks like someone just
cashed their paycheck, and they probably really need
this money.”
I
called the owner of the wallet, he came by, and I gave
him the wallet. He looked inside and was shocked to
see that the money was still in it. He started sobbing
and smiling and was just overcome with all of this loving,
appreciative emotion. I remember he said something sweet
like, “I can’t believe there are still people
like you in this world!”I told him, “Don’t
mention it, I’m happy to help.”
Well,
he wouldn’t leave the property until he gave me
a reward. I tried to talk him out of it, because I didn’t
want to take advantage of the situation. But somewhere
in our discussion he pressed $200 in my hand and said, “Please
take it. I’ve been going through a spiritual crisis
lately, and you’ve restored my faith that this
crazy planet is an okay place to be. Thank you!”
I
was overcome with emotion then, and the two of us exchanged
a hug, and something clicked inside my head. Maybe it
WAS okay for me to receive this $200 in this way. Wasn’t
it a) exactly the amount I had wanted to receive and
b) wasn’t it being given to me by someone who
really wanted to give it to me, who felt spiritually
moved by sharing this reward with me?
I
took the money, amazed at how the Universe can arrange
things, in its infinite, mysterious wisdom. And the
guy did assure me that it wasn’t his last $800
or anything, this was just extra cash he had on hand
to have some fun with his wife that weekend, go out
for dinner, do some shopping and stuff. I wanted to
make sure it wasn’t his rent money!
I
encourage you to continue the process of creating abundance
and freeing up the flow of universal bounty in your
life. If you don’t feel that you deserve more
money right now, write your check for something else –for
a day off from work, for extra time, for more companionship,
for a quality relationship, for a nice conversation
with a close friend.
The
point is to get in the habit of tapping into the frequency
of the miraculous and realize that that’s where
our spirits naturally reside. The Universe really IS
rooting for you, I promise! And a cornucopia of wonderful
experiences is truly within your grasp.
