Dear Lipstick Mystic,
I hope this email finds you well. I know you're incredibly busy, but I was hoping you could take the time to answer a question to something I've long been wondering about.
I'm wondering why it's so darned hard for me to focus on my meditation during the new moon, when the veils are supposedly stronger between our world and the ancients?
For example, today during my meditation, I felt a strong pressure in my solar plexus/throat area which to me signifies I have some emotional stuff to clear.
However, I've always found it really hard to focus for one reason or another during every meditation I've done on the New Moon.
Can you shed some light on this?
--- Much love & light, Healer in Training
Dear Healer,
This is a great question! I'm sure many people experience what you're describing during the new moon. I know I have on occasion!
What many people don't realize is that the three days before and after the new moon are a powerful time for clearing, cleansing, and expelling stuff from the chakras and energy field. The new moon provides the raw battery power to help bring your energy system into balance. The first step to achieving this balance can be to clear out psychic debris. Think of this as a time for spiritual housecleaning. You need to do this before you can fully embrace the higher frequencies of the new moon energy.
So instead of pressuring yourself to instantly create a 100% "perfect" and harmonious new moon meditation, it might be more helpful to approach new moons this way. Think of the spiritual work you're doing during a new moon as being composed of several parts. Try focusing on these three steps:
Part one of your new moon work can involve being still and taking inventory of your energy system, noticing what feels tight or out of balance. If a particular chakra seems like it's carrying some debris, think about what issues might be bound up in that chakra. Tightness at the throat chakra often means there are words you are leaving unsaid, so think about how you can speak your truth. Discomfort at the heart can involve emotions you've been stuffing like sorrow or grief, so give yourself permission to cry. Heaviness at the solar plexus can indicate an adrenalin overload and some unexpressed fear or anger.
Part two might involve consciously meditating to release and expel that stuff (and all the related issues.) Invoke your higher guidance to help you gently release all pent-up emotions and negative thoughts and programs that have been sticking to your system. Envision your guides and angelic helpers taking all of that gunk off to the Light and purging it permanently from your system. And don't forget to give loving thanks!
Part three can involve welcoming in the clear energies present at the new moon time. Invite your higher guidance to charge you up with positive energy and bask in the love of that Higher Power. Fill yourself up with good vibes as if you are sunning yourself in the light of a spiritual inner sun or Creator Source that's putting out radiant beams of peace and healing.
With the busy, crazy lives we all lead, we end up carrying a lot of psychic "noise" in our energy fields. Then when we try to meditate, instead of feeling peaceful, we have all this stuff churning around inside of us. So it might be helpful for anyone who is interested in working with the healing energies of the new moon to realize that the new moon has a tendency to act as a magnet, drawing out psychic toxins and encouraging you to purge them. Cleansing comes first, basking in the good vibes comes second! If you approach your spiritual work this way each month, you'll soon see how wonderful the new moon energies can be and what a marvelous opportunity they give us to heal and to release energy blockages.
For people who would like to write themselves a new moon abundance check, this ritual becomes much more powerful if you write the check when you're at "part three" of the process I mention above. Ideally, you will have already cleared out whatever psychic debris you need to shake off, and then you'll be sitting in the good vibrations of the time. To fully energize any intentions you wish to set into motion at the new moon, you need to be in a clear and positive mental state and your emotions should be in a happy, optimistic place. This will give your ritual of writing the new moon abundance check much more power and intensity, which can increase the speed at which good things can start manifesting in your lives.
Generally speaking, the rule with any manifesting or "power prayer" work is to make sure that you're in an balanced place so your energy field can radiate your intentions out into the Universe with crystal clear intent. If you're feeling chaotic or disrupted, it's best to focus on self-healing first. That way, you won't be starting your abundance check work with a cloudy psychic energy.
Thanks very much for bringing up a very important point - that clearing often needs to happen first at the new moon before you can chill out and enjoy the more positive new moon energies.
