Learn More About Your Personality By Getting a Birth Chart

If you've never seen your birth chart, it can be really fun to get a copy of your birth chart plus an interpretation of what all the different planets and positions mean. You see, none of us is a pure Virgo, Libra, etc. Our sun sign might be Virgo, but we might have our moon in Scorpio and our Mercury in Sagittarius or whatever.

So we are all astrological "mutts" who experience a mixture of influences from different signs. This will create unique things within your personality, and until you take a look at your birth chart plus an interpretation, you might wonder WHY you have certain personliaty quirks. For instance, no two Virgos are alike, so if you read one of those generalized sun sign interpretation books, you might say, "Hey, I don't fit this description of Virgo at all." That's because there are so many other influences in your chart besides your sun sign. If you have a strong moon placement in a different sign, you might actually fit the personality for that sign.

I just did an interview last week with a reporter who was asking me about astrology. He felt it was all bogus. I explained to him that this is entirely natural, since most people base their entire knowledge about astrology on newspaper horoscopes.  Newspaper horoscopes are a tiny snapshot of a much broader energy picture going on with the planets. And many of them are written in such cheesy, over the top styles - no wonder most people think astrology is bogus!

I explained to him how a real astrologer like me is actually sitting here with a ton of astrological charts, an ephemeris (which is a list of all the tiny, tiny movements the planets are going through,) and notes.  I do a lot of "back end" calculating and thinking before I sit down to write an astrology column. Then I have to reduce this much broader energy picture into a couple of sentences. Not an easy thing to do!  But every astrologer who writes horoscopes understands the limitations of the medium, so we realize that most people will simply regard what we write as entertainment. That's fine with me!  I enjoy making people laugh or even provoking strong responses in people to get them to think with my various horoscope columns.

But a birth chart, as I explained to this reporter, is something very different. It is a representation of where all of the planets were at the exact hour of your birth, and it is an extremely complex, detailed view of some of the energy influences you were born under.  These influences shape the personality and can show you some amazingly accurate things about your strengths and weaknesses, natural talents, and personality quirks.  As I said before,  no two Virgos will be alike since the minute, hour, and day, and year of their birth will be different.
