More Animal Blogging - Our Neighbor, Mr. Fox

While I was working on writing my columns today I saw this little fellow in our driveway.

There are several foxes in our area. Our neighbors even saw a mummy fox this year with three babies.  This is probably a relative. I've never seen foxes up too close. This little guy was grooming himself in the driveway just like one of our cats. And he rolled around in the gravel getting a good back scratch just like our pusscats do.

Photoblogging the County Fair

We went to the yearly Hunterdon County Fair last week and saw a wonderful array of cute animals doing cute things. If you've never seen a pig race or a bunny race before, you're really missing out.  It's not so much that the animals are serious track and field contenders - more that they're just so darned adorable as they amble around their respective racetracks.

The pigs were so fast on their feet that they were only a blur in the photographs, but we did manage to record a few other highlights from the fair.

This baby bunny, Racer, took his own sweet time ambling down the track.  Eventually he was disqualified because he stopped three quarters of the way to nibble on some straw and decided not to finish the race.

Racer the racing bunny

Some of Racer's friends

Baby cow

Baby ducks

White duck with bouffant hairdo

We call these the Swiss Miss Cows, but they're really brown Swiss.

Prize winning sunflower

I was too big to go on the dragon coaster.  Sniff! Those height restrictions get me every time.

I was also too big to ride the bee.

We took in a fine display of historic and restored tractors.

We saw an extensive selection of fancy roosters. Some were old.

Some were a lot younger.

Roman the cat. He wasn't at the fair, but he probably would have loved the chicken tent.

New Moon on Wednesday Plus Sun Enters Virgo

There will be a new moon this Wednesday, August 23rd. It happens at 3:10pm Eastern Time here in the US in the sign of Virgo. Also, the sun enters Virgo earlier on Wednesday at 2:22am.

New moons are superb times for clearing the deck, ridding yourself of psychic cobwebs, and making fresh starts. You might enjoy writing yourself a new moon check. This is an exercise in abundance thinking that can really create results in the material world. Just scroll down to my series of articles about new moon checks at the bottom of my home page to learn more.

The sun in Virgo brings about a practical, focused energy, giving life a "back to school" feel. Virgo is a hard-working sign who actually ENJOYS working hard (otherwise known as a workaholic - I know, because I'm a Virgo!) Under this influence we'll be dotting our "i's" and crossing our "t's," getting things in order. It's a good time to get organized and to make checklists of things you want to accomplish this fall.

If you're born under an Earth sign like Taurus, Virgo, or Capricorn, the next four weeks will be "power" period when you'll be feeling more clear-headed and confident than you have in a while.

This is good for me since I'm currently working simultaneously on a redesign/relaunch of this site plus two other new sites.

Some days, my little brain hurts. I could use some extra cosmic vibes!

Dan Millman on Self-Worth

You may be familiar with author Dan Millman, who writes about spirituality in everyday life. I came across this excerpt from his 1999 book Everyday Enlightenment. This particular section is about how we can better connect with self-worth, which directly relates to our ability to receive abundance on all levels.

He sees self-worth as something different from self-confidence. Self-worth is more linked to how we value our entire being and the contributions that we are making to the world. I like what he has to say very much, and I know you will, too.

If You Can't Take the Heat, Stay Out of the U.S.

Okay, you Californians and mid-westerners who have been steaming along for weeks with weather in the triple digits....we're getting your heat wave here in the Northeast now, and while it might be cruel of me to say this....

You can keep your heat wave! We don't want it!

We're finally hitting the 100 degree mark with about a gazillion percent humidity, and everything in the immediate vicinity is moist, broiling, and grumpy.

This includes my cats, who are usually quite chipper and happy.

For those of you dealing with similarly brutal weather conditions, allow me to make an offering:

Ice, ice baby!

These ice cubes just happen to go nicely with this:

Here's to sipping, not sweating!

Today is Lammas, a Spiritual Power Day

Lammas is one of the eight days throughout the year when the "veil" or divide between worlds is thinnest. Basically, it's easier to pass in and out of "the Matrix" at these times. Lucid dreaming is easier, and you might find that your dreams are unusually powerful. They might contain messages from your Higher Self, so pay attention to them!

The last such power day for us here in the Northeast was the summer solstice in June. Lammas is a smaller power day, where the energies aren't quite so strong or intense as they are at the equinoxes and solstices. It happens halfway between the summer solstice and the autumnal equinox in September.

This is a great day for setting intentions, doing healing, and engaging in any form of spirited work.

You can read this archived article where I talk about the energies of the eight major power days:

The Energies of Halloween and the Eight Major Power Days

And if you live in the southern hemisphere, where the seasons are reversed, you're still experiencing a power day. It's just a differerent one. You're experiencing the power day called Imbolc (celebrated as Groundhog Day here in the U.S.)

Mercury Is Finally Out of Retrograde - Woo-hoo!

Friday night Mercury finally switched out of retrograde motion and began moving ahead (or "direct" in fancy astrologer lingo.) It's still in Water sign Cancer.

It will gradually pick up speed throughout the week, and it'll be free of its "storm" period (more fancy lingo) by Friday the 4th.

What does this mean? Well, on a personal level, if you've been feeling foggy, lethargic, and generally unmotivated, you'll start to feel that spark again. Suddenly, your brain is buzzing with ideas and you're feeling more optimistic about life. No longer do you feel like a particularly large and flatulent elephant has been sitting on your head, blocking your view.

On August 10th Mercury will move into Fire sign Leo, which will give us even more energy. If you're an Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius, Mercury in Leo will give you tons of stamina. And even if you're not a Fire sign, you'll be inspired to get more active on all levels. While Mercury was in Cancer, the most exercise you wanted to do was, say, move from one napping spot to the next. (Just like my cats.) When Mercury moves into Leo, you'll be more motivated to get to the gym, do some yard work, and generally be on the go.

So this week is a week of transition. Some lively energies will be zooming about, but there's still a bit of thick psychic "pea soup" fogging things up. And with this heatwave we've been experiencing, it's best not to try to do too much too quickly. Give yourself the full week to gradually get into gear again and to focus on stuff that you want or need to do throughout the rest of August.

"Pardon my flatulence! It's nothing personal!"

Vampire Cat Captured!

You've probably already heard this on the news, but the vampire cat has finally been captured. The July 31st issue of Weekly World News has the whole story, and I imagine CNN and Fox News will be right behind them with coverage.

Vampire cat is alleged to have been a scary cat from the Appalachian Mountain region - more specifically, Tarnation, West Virginia. Tarnation Sheriff Hoyt Winchester described what had been going on to the ever-diligent fact checkers at the Weekly World News. Apparently, about a dozen people had been found lately with their blood suspiciously drained, only the blood appeared to all have been drained out of their.....toes....through tiny bite marks.

Eventually, locals gave the vampire kitty a good dose of Jesus and some holy wood, trapping him in a specially blessed cage. All of those positive vibes were too much for the vampire kitty, and by the next morning, he had turned completely to ashes.

Despite the impeccable reporting of the Weekly World News, I have to confess that I'm a little skeptical about vampire cats. Maybe it was the other stories in this issue that set off warning bells for me.....like the man who is gradually turning into a clam shell because he has consumed so much shellfish over the years, or the infant born with a button nose (a real button for a nose.)

Or maybe it was the article about "DVDVD," a new disease been discovered by researchers in Stockholm. Apparently, you can catch "DVDVD" if you watch too much porn. Sufferers go blind.

Then there was the story about the deadbeat alien dad who is being named in a paternity suit. The human mom doesn't want the alien to be visiting their human/hybrid son.

Don't they realize that the inhabitants of this universe need to learn how to get along? Maybe we should send Condi Rice over to smooth things out.

I'm glad we don't have vampire cats at our house. Our fluffballs are more like "reverse vampire cats." Instead of draining our blood, they fill us with healing energy and feline affection.

So I don't think out kitties would be eligible to join The Vampire Cats Club.

Sunday, July 23, 2006: New Moon on Tuesday, Mercury Direct on Friday

This is just a reminder that there will be a new moon in the sign of Leo at 12:31 am Eastern (New York) time this Tuesday, July 25th. There's also a conjunction in Leo between the moon and Saturn that night at 10:18pm.

With those two things happening, don't be surprised if you feel restless and weird, with a major case of ants in your pants. The moon will be putting out an intense vibration. You'll want to get MOVING with whatever seems "stuck" in your life. So impatience will be brewing.

Meanwhile, the moon and Saturn conjunction urges us to be practical, to avoid rushing into things, and by all means, to avoid eloping to Vegas with a snake handler named Thorn whom we just met in a biker bar. Under this planetary influence, it's best to ask Thorn for a rain check on that whole wedding thing.

Some of these energies will dissipate at the end of the week. Mercury finally goes direct in the sign of Cancer this Friday, July 28th. Yay! I don't know about you, but I plan to have me a big old Mercury Going Direct party, because this Mercury retrograde period was beyond bizarre. (Power outages, earthquakes, and war, anyone?)

Mercury goes direct Friday the 28th at 8:39pm Eastern Time here in the U.S. Even so, Mercury will still be in what is called a "storm" period, where it isn't flowing ahead smoothly just yet. Things won't be "all clear" with Mercury until a week later on August 4th.

So hang tight in the meantime. Don't elope with anybody, and avoid nervous breakdowns as best you can. If you're like me, you might embrace the "nightly gin and tonic" treatment plan for fending off stress.

And if you need cheering up, check back for my latest Project Runway recap this Thursday! I'll announce it here when it goes live.

7/20/06: Project Runway Episode Two Recap is Up!

Okay, I was up until 3 am doing the recap for episode two. This means I am most definitely a) insane and b) addicted to this show. Since there is no cure for this type of madness, my only option is to present you with my recap of episode two of Project Runway.

7/18/06: Infinite Love is the Only Truth and Peak Experiences

David Icke, alternative spirituality writer and researcher, published a book this year called "Infinite Love is the Only Truth, Everything Else is an Illusion."

He's referring to peak experiences he had in which he perceived that love is all there is.....and everything else is simply a detour from that vibration or that energy.

For people who haven't experienced this state of perception, it can sound like a load of hippie poop. When you're having a bad day and all you can see is negativity, the last thing you want is some White Lighter beaming at you and telling you that your problems aren't real and that you just need to think positively.

But the fact is that there are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people around the world who have had peak experiences during meditation, prayer, or spiritual reflection, and they're all reporting what David Icke has seen and felt.

Love IS all there is. The rest is just an illusion.

Some months ago at metaphysical forum Montalk.net there was a discussion thread about this assertion from David Icke, and whether or not "Love as the answer" is just another form of programming we need to watch out for.

I piped in, of course, talking about some of my own experiences with perceiving the same thing when I was meditating and had my spiritual awareness open up. It happened when I was 16 and it forever changed my life.

I think it's more important than ever to consider that there might be a different vibration, a higher wavelength of experience and emotion, that permeates this world. And that holding on to that and working at accessing that on a regular basis might truly change the quality not just of our lives, but of the lives of others on this planet.

I think spiritual tools are always the best ones to use when we need to shift or adjust something on the world stage.

I've posted what I wrote about my own transformative peak experience. You can read it here.

And if you'd like to read the whole discussion thread at Montalk.net, you'll find it here.

7/14/06: How to Create a Reality Shift

As crazy events kick up around the world, it's more important than ever for us to maintain our focus on peace and healing. Your thoughts, emotions, and the very vibration you hold in your body can create a huge difference in the world. I just sent out a special issue of Lipstick Mystic News talking about how you can create your own reality shift.

Anatomy of a Romantic Breakup

Have you ever wondered why it HURTS so much after you've broken off a romantic relationship? As a couple, you had a fused energy body, and you were connected through an astral energy cord (much like an umbilical cord.) During a breakup, you're going through a processing of disconnecting from that person and splitting that energy body back into two independent pieces.

That's why it feels so strange. Nobody is immune to this process. Not even famous rocker chick Sheryl Crowe. Read more about this here:

Tai Shan the Panda Was One Year Old Yesterday

Tai Shan is a male panda born last year at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. His parents are Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, who are both visiting the zoo from China.

He's a lot bigger than he was when he was born a year ago. The zoo keeps two panda cams running at all times, so you can see little Tai Shan if you go to the Panda Cam at the National Zoo.

Tai Shan had a birthday party yesterday and the event was enjoyed by all.

Tai Shan at the National Zoo

I'm very fond of pandas because I've been able to access past life memories of a lifetime in a rural area of China in the mountains where I occasionally was gifted with a vision of this beautiful creature out in the trees. Usually, it would be snowing when I saw him. My family called the panda "the ghost bear" because it seemed such a beautiful and mysterious presence whenever we had a sighting of one. We felt that it was good luck to gaze upon a panda, since they were rarely seen.

More on the Decision to Remain Childfree

I've been receiving lots of mail from people who are leaning towards remaining childfree but are experiencing lots of negativity from other people who tend to maintain a pro-breeding stance. Hey, there's nothing wrong with having kids. Just know what you're getting into, and make the choice in a fully conscious way. And if your awareness is guiding you NOT to have kids, honor this inner prompting instead of drowning out this very important voice of truth within yourself.

Mother Earth and Floods on the Delaware River

Last week there was a lot of weather drama here in the Northeast after several days of rain. Parts of New York State, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and even as far south as Washington, D.C. experienced major flooding as the river system was overwhelmed by excess water.

I live in central New Jersey not far from the Delaware River in a gorgeous riverside community filled with quaint inns, shops, and artist colonies. Our town was flooded out for several days until they managed to pump out all the water. In fact, today will be the first day when I can probably pick up mail since the post office here has been closed. Our little post office sits right next to the canal, which is right next to the Delaware, and it overflowed last week.

It was very eerie attempting to drive into town last week, driving along on my scenic back roads like I always do, and suddenly coming to the main road...which had become a river. It was completely filled with water.

There have been three floods here in about 21 months, and people and businesses right on the river have been through a lot. They've experienced mandatory evacuations, having their power and gas shut off, and then once they're finally allowed to return to their homes, they will have to deal with expensive repairs, property damage, and waste cleanup. Very sad and stressful for everybody involved.

My honey grew up near a lake in a rural area, and he's always been very attuned to water. He's been in the process of putting together a new office space for his business over the past year and a half, and although we looked at many neat spaces he could have rented in town, he kept getting the sense that there would be floods coming soon.

He was right - there were three of them.

An architectural firm that he sometimes works with had flooding on their first floor, and for a week you couldn't get anywhere near their parking lot. At one point, he was looking into renting space from them. We're glad he didn't!

We tuned in about the floods this week and had a nice chat with Mother Earth. She's such a loving being, really amazing, ancient and wise. She loves people and doesn't want to cause them pain, but she says she occasionally has to generate floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and high tides as a way of "venting" pressure that's been generated deep within her core. This pressure builds up over time and is a combination of human-generated and nature-generated pressure.

The collective psyche of humanity when it is locked into a negative vibration can cause earth changes. And of course, pollution, the use of munitions in war, and other man-generated things are also bad for the Earth. But she also says she has certain cycles going on deep within her core that require her to release pressure sometimes.

She's been trying to send a firm yet loving message to many of the folks living in river communities that these are NOT safe places to live. She told us that much as the ancients in Egypt knew that the Nile needed to flood periodically, and that this was an integral part of nature's cycles, the Delaware River and other rivers are similar. So the actual width of the river systems is going through some changes as the ley lines of the earth go through their own ever-changing cycles. We need to honor this as a natural process and make plans accordingly.

That's why she sent three floods in such a little amount of time....so people would be given CLEAR warning that it's in their best interests to leave.

Of course, many people won't. People get very attached to their homes, their communities, and so forth.

But there will be more floods up ahead, and the next one may be a lot worse than this recent one.

Mother Earth says it's not so much that there are any "severe earth changes" coming as predicted by so many psychics. It's more of a natural process that needs to happen that will cause SOME discomfort for people. But if people can remain connected to Mother Earth as well as a Higher Power in their prayers and meditations, asking regularly for guidance and protection, information will come through about exactly where it's safe for them to be.

We've been told over and over again that where we are is fine, and that we're definitely supposed to be here. We're not right on the water, we're some miles away. But I check in all the time about this anyway, trying not to project anything too definite about the future. Because things CAN change quickly, and to a certain extent, you need to remain as flexible and mobile as you can these days.

Anyway, if you live in an area that has some instability to it in a geopathic sense, where volcanoes, earthquakes, or floods or hurricanes have been happening, think very carefully about your long-term future and well-being. Pay attention to the signals of Mother Earth. She will send clear warnings if you need to move, and she tries to do it repeatedly to break through people's natural resistance to hearing the truth.

I witnessed in this community people's tendency to remain in denial. For instance, until these recent floods, the last major flood happened in something like 1955. And everyone was going, "Well, since we didn't have a flood since 1955, this will probably be the last one." And then the second flood came, and people were still assuming an attitude of, "Well, we had two floods back to back - surely this will be the end of it."

Now, after this third flood, I hope people will realize that we're witnessing real climate change, and this isn't some random thing you can just bury your head in the sand and ignore. We need to assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of ourselves and loved ones and remain attuned to the flow of nature so we can remain safe in the years to come.

Mother Earth says the earth changes map of Gordon Michael Scallion and similar predictions made by psychics aren't correct. Devastation to that degree is NOT going to happen. But there will be some areas that go through severe weather events, and everybody needs to be looking carefully at the geology and the weather patterns and the flood plains of where they live to assess potential dangers that might arise.

It's all part of the earth doing what she needs to do - and she assures me that this doesn't include killing off the human race with an axial shift or other such nonsense. Humans and the earth have a unique, symbiotic, interdependent spiritual relationship, very beautiful and mysterious.

We need each other. We're in this together, Mother Earth and us.
