The Lipstick
Mystic lives on a farm, otherwise known as Wildlife Central. Although
she and her husband-unit began their country adventure with just
three cats, felines have a way of showing up on their doorstep,
imposing their fuzzy will on the inhabitants. So now there’s
seven. Or eight. Plus some barn cats. Plus visitors. So it’s
around fourteen, give or take a possum. All of these cats have been
fixed, but that doesn’t seem to have made any dent in the
local populace. They just keep a-comin’.
As you scroll down, you can access photos of the Mystic’s cat colony. Check back regularly as more photos are added. Plus, you can read about the Mystic's adventures in felinity at the lifeof7cats cat blog. The cat blog has many cool links to articles about mystical connections with animals, the healing power of pets, and fun fuzzy photos. In short, it's just purr-fect!

Tabby’s
Place
Tabby’s
Place is a state-of-the art facility devoted entirely to serving
older cats and sick or “special needs” cats, placing
them in adoptive homes. Tabby’s Place makes a commitment to
these cats to never euthanize them, no matter how severe their health
situation. A staff of loving vets has vowed to look after any cats
who fail to be adopted for the full lifetime that those cats have
left. Tabby’s Place is in Ringoes, New Jersey, and I can attest
that it’s a magical place where the cats live clean, happy
lives and receive tons of affection from staff members and volunteers.
Running a place like this is terrifically expensive. Do consider
making a donation. You can read all about some of the newest cats
that have joined Tabby’s Place, plus find out more about how
you can help.

Big Cat Rescue

Big Cat Rescue is a fabulous non-profit sanctuary for rescued wild cats. This Tampa facility was hit hard by the recent series of Florida hurricanes, so they could really use your donation right now. Many of these gorgeous wildcats have suffered horrific abuse at the hands of their last owners, and the staffers at Big Cat Rescue are their rescuing angels. Did you know, for instance, that tigers are frequently kept by drug dealers to guard their "stash?" These tigers are forced into all manner of aggressive behavior to act as "guard dogs." Do go to their website and see photos of the many beautiful and exotic wildcats that Big Cat Rescue provides homes for.

Alleycat Allies

We first learned
about Alleycat Allies on a trip to the Trump’s Taj Mahal Casino
in Atlantic City. We stepped
outside to look out at the Boardwalk one afternoon and watched all of these interesting cats suddenly emerge from beneath the
Boardwalk, spreading out in the sunlight as it shone
across the beach. We wondered where all the cats were coming from.
They seemed well-fed and happy. We walked down to where they were
and talked to a man who told us all about the organization who looks
after the cats. And then we saw all of the food bowls and little
igloo shelters that were arranged next to the Boardwalk, where this
huge group of cats were happily hanging out. The volunteers at Alleycat
Allies make a hands-on commitment to the feral cat colonies. There
main headquarters in Washington D.C, but they support grassroots
groups that are springing up everywhere. They get the cats medicine,
take them to the vet, and have round-the-clock volunteers who see
that the cats are fed and happy. All of the cats get fixed, so the
colony’s numbers remain stable instead of getting out of control.
Since these are somewhat wild cats, they are happiest living outdoors,
so this is the best situation for them. When the nice man told us
all about the organization, I emptied out whatever money was left
in my pockets and gave it to him. I figured that this organization
needs my money a lot more than Donald Trump does!
You can find out
more about Alleycat Allies here. Please offer your support in the
form of a donation. It really does make a difference in the lives
of this too often neglected population of feral cats.
