Do Women Become More Psychic After Having a Child? - 6/28/05

Dear Lipstick Mystic,

I love your website! Good stuff! I have been psychically sensitive all of my life - but now it's like BOOM! My intuition has really picked up since I had my daughter (who is a very old soul, too) last July! Does this happen a lot?

--Best, K.

Hi K.,

Thanks for writing. I often hear from new mums that their psychic sensitivity seems to increase once that mother/child bond is established. I think it may even be a natural part of our bodily system, a way of ensuring that new moms will be completely attuned to their child and extra alert to any dangers their child might be exposed to. Think of it as an innate radar system for detecting trouble.

What's nice is you can learn to use this in other parts of your life, too, to better understand your loved ones, friends, and coworkers. Just pay attention to what your psychic radar is telling you each day, and you'll soon figure out how to discern "false" reads from things that come through crystal clear. It takes a little practice, though! Some people find it helpful to keep a journal at their side so  they can jot down thoughts and impressions and track their rate of "hits."

I'm a mom to eight furbabies myself (all cats who showed up out on the farm property where we live.)  I've lost count of the times when I've had a psychic dream or flash about what was going on with one of the cats, and it proved to be true. So I think this same parent/child psychic bond happens with pets, too.  For instance, we went out of town one New Year's and I had a dream about our white cat, Earl, having a gash in his forehead. We came home to find him with a new wound right in the area I'd seen in my dream.  The dream almost prepared me to be extra alert when we came home, and so I noticed right away when Earl came in that we needed to take him to the vet.  (He's a big bruiser of a cat who think he owns the property, so he sometimes gets into tangles with other critters.)

Another time, tragically, I dreamt of our old cat, Cal, having a negative encounter with a coyote. We had just moved to this place and hadn't yet heard about coyotes being seen in the area. Sure enough, within a few days, she encountered one outside and unfortunately died of the wounds she received.  I hate it when dreams like that come true!  Very sad.  But she was also an older cat who was starting to have some health problems. And it was weird -- for several months I'd been getting the sense that she was going to die because her spirit truly was ready to move on.  I didn't know it would be in such a dramatic way, though!

Okay, now I have given you lots of scary cat stories - I don't mean to be morbid!  But I did want to illustrate how strong our spiritual connection is to all of our loved ones, be they the furry kind or the two-legged type.

Best to you and your little one!
