New Moon in Gemini, Saturday, May 27, 2006 and the Mysteries of Gemini

I wanted to let you know about the upcoming new moon this weekend. This Saturday, May 27th, there is a new moon in intellectual Air sign Gemini. It happens at 1:25 am Eastern Time here in the US. There's a lot of Gemini influence right now because the sun entered Gemini on May 21st, and it will remain in Gemini until June 21st, and Mercury also entered Gemini on May 19th, where it will remain until June 3rd.

New moons always give us a feeling of wanting to make a fresh start, a creative burst of optimism that inspires us to push ahead and begin living our dreams. As the sun and Mercury continue to travel in Gemini, Gemini themes are coming to the forefront. Gemini is an Air sign, lively, intellectual, and witty. Geminis are tremendous jokers who always know how to lighten the energy in a room when things get too serious. They are very social, very fun to be around, and yet they also have a certain reserve to them. You can never quite know what a Gemini is REALLY thinking behind that charming outer personality.

Gemini as a sign is represented by the symbol of the Twins, Castor and Pollux. Castor and Pollux fought alongside the hero Jason of Greek mythology who was on a quest to find the golden fleece. In a similar way, people born under the sign of Gemini are always on a quest. They may not know exactly what it is that they are seeking, but they have a core restlessness about them - an awareness that there is something that they need to be doing, if only they could put their finger on it.

Twin energy is complex and sometimes combative. Twins are unique in that they are very alike, yet this closeness can be a point of contention between them. Some twins actually fight MORE than regular siblings because they are so desperate to prove themselves as individuals and be seen as a separate person than their twin sister or brother. Well, poor Gemini embodies these complex energies. If you were born under the sign, you know what I'm talking about. It's like you are split into two halves, and there are two personalities living within you. You don't want to be this way, yet you can't deny your true nature. Astrologers often poke fun at Gemini and say that you're schizophrenic, and to a certain extent, this is true!

It's hard for Geminis to figure out what you REALLY feel and REALLY want because you look at these issues from both sides. You can always see a pro and a con to everything. This makes you notoriously gun-shy about making a committment to anything - including a romantic relationship. Geminis don't mean to be cruel, but they really aren't comfortable saying "Yes" to something unless BOTH of aspects of their personality, the two twins, agree on it. Until this happens, they will use their considerable charm to stall for more time.

So being in a romance with a Gemini can be frustrating because one day things seem to be moving ahead, and the next day your Gemini appears to be putting on the breaks for no reason. The Gemini probably can't even GIVE you a reason. If a Gemini is out of touch with his or her inner self and hasn't come to grips with both sides of his personality, then he may do exasperating things, frustrating loved ones with his contradictory moods and behavior.

More self-aware Geminis learn how to give themselves plenty of room and time before making decisions but figure out how to do this in an honest and loving way. Less enlightened Geminis are the ones who play the "I love you/I hate you" game, leading their poor romantic partners on a wild goose chase and exhausting and damaging them in the process.

So, with the sun, Mercury, and the new moon in Gemini right now, it's important to look at the energies of Gemini and how they operate. Whatever sign you are, you'll be taking on some Gemini issues. You may find that you are at odds with yourself about something. Maybe you KNOW that you need to do something specific about your work or career, but you're dragging your heels about it for some reason. That's the influence of Gemini slowing things down. Or perhaps you are CERTAIN that you want something specific in a romance, yet you find yourself oddly unable to articulate your true desires to your partner. That's Gemini holding you back.

The important thing about the next few weeks is to recognize that duality, that ability to be in two realities at once, is something universal to us all. If you feel confused, ambivalent, or distracted, consider the possibility that this is simply because you are examining different realities and probabilities and exploring the energy of each.
