Dear Lipstick Mystic,
Thank you for awarding me this month's tea leaf reading. I'm thrilled!
My question is financial. When will this poverty end?
Thank you so very much.
-- S.S.
Dear S.S.,
Thanks for submitting your question to me. Money issues are such a highly charged subject for us all, and your question is one I hear echoed in so many people's lives these days.
Let me dry the tea leaves, and then we'll look into what energies are active right now in your financial situation.
Broken Necklace as a Symbol for Financial Blocks
The symbol that showed up in your reading was an interesting one. It was a chain, like one you'd wear around your neck as a necklace, that was broken. Think of a necklace that has been pulled apart but, with a jeweler's help, it could be woven back together again. That's what image appeared in your leaves. It was a symbol of a broken necklace.
The broken links in the chain indicate the disruption and the chaos that has assaulted the financial part of your life, no doubt causing you lots of stress. When money matters take a turn for the worse, it's no fun!
When financial matters take a turn for the worse, it's very much like experiencing the death of a loved one. The shock is intense, and your energy field undergoes a huge negative blow. The stress of financial problems creates a hole in your energy field that needs to be filled up and repaired before you can feel confident about money matters again.
If the problems you're experiencing keep repeating themselves and you experience another blow each month, this hole will keep opening your energy field up. You'll feel ripped apart on a psychic level every time you undergo financial "bad news."
When a negative hole opens up in your energy field because you're traumatized about something, you need to stitch the hole shut and seal over the cracks that have opened up in your psyche. Don't expect to do this on the day that a huge bill shows up in your mailbox. You won't be able to heal over those wounds on a day when you're being heavily triggered about money problems.
To heal over those psychic holes, you need to seize any moment on any day when you are feeling good or optimistic, those times when you are feeling relaxed and good about life, and use those times to work at your financial healing. You need to shift your emotional charge around money issues in order to shift your financial reality around. If you keep moping around and restimulating the feelings attached to financial trauma, this will become a long-term "set point" that your psyche will retain, and it will be very hard to break out of. Believe me -- I've been there, and I know!
When we're in dire straits financially, this often takes a huge toll on our self-esteem, and the financial problems and the self-esteem issues start feeding off each other.
So I will recommend several things to you. Bear with me here. They may sound silly, but they work. I've applied them in my own life during financial downturns and I've also used them in my work with thousands of individual clients who sought healing and resolution on issues ranging from the personal to the financial -- all to good effect.
How to Overcome Poverty Thoughtforms
1) Soak Up Love and Appreciation from Those Who Adore You
You'll never attract abundance if you don't feel good about yourself. So the number one thing to do, ASAP, is to surround yourself with people, situations, and activities that make you feel good about yourself. If you have a hobby you are involved with, get together with others who pursue this same hobby and show off your talents. Other people will mirror back positive comments about your skills, and you'll "feed" on this good energy to replenish yourself and repair those psychic black holes which have opened up in your energy field throughout this period of financial difficulty.
Or get involved with some charitable works at your local church. Doing good makes you feel good about yourself, which will also heal those black holes within your energy field.
Mentor someone who needs help in an area you excel at. If you know how to design web pages, volunteer to design some for a friend, colleague, or fellow congregation member. If you're a good gardener, give someone tips on handling tomato plants. Show off your wisdom, your skills, and your knowledge, and as others reflect back "Oooh, she's very smart!" you'll start to recapture that inner "glow" you've been missing during these tough times.
2) Place Yourself in an Abundant Setting to Soak Up Abundant Energy
Another important part of healing those black holes in your energy field involves putting yourself in a pleasing, abundant, and/or beautiful environment. Head for a museum and spend hours perusing the gorgeous sculptures and paintings. Sit in the lobby of an expensive hotel with beautiful decor, soaking up the refined atmosphere. Notice the prosperous, well-dressed people coming in and out, and resolve to be like them. Dress well as you go to this place and you'll find yourself shifting in to a more abundant vibration. Even if all you do is sit in the lobby or at the bar nursing a $2.00 soda, you are doing something good for yourself by taking in a dose of an abundant setting and allowing that energy to flow through your energy field.
3) Absorb Fresh Ideas and Thoughtforms About Having Money
Sometimes, when we're paralyzed with fear about money, we keep replaying all the negative voices of people whose poverty programming we absorbed through the years. We hear the voices of a parent telling us we'll never be successful, or we replay the words of an abusive or critical ex who was always undermining our self-confidence. You need to drown out these voices and recalibrate your psyche to a new frequency.
Some people like to listen to motivational tapes by various teachers who speak about success consciousness. I find that this really helps me when I feel my prosperity consciousness slipping. Sometimes, you just need to read about someone who succeeded in real estate to step into a different way of thinking and perceiving. Or you'll want to visit a website which specializes in financial advice. Or you might want to listen to a recording by a motivational speaker who has manifested great success in his or her own life so you can realize that there ARE other possibilities out there.
I really like this one book by mystic and visionary Stuart Wilde. If you're not familiar with him, he's a humorous yet profound guy who has been around a long time. He's written many books and has a website with lots of good articles at: http://www.stuartwilde.com
One of my favorite books by him is called The Trick to Money is Having Some. It really helps you understand the emotional charge that we all carry about money and how the key to overcoming money problems is to neutralize that intense emotional energy we associate with money.
Money just is. It's a neutral thing in and of itself. The problem is that we attach all manner of other stuff to it like self-esteem, the need for respect from our parents, the desire for power, the obsession to remain in control, etc. His book is excellent for helping you shift your attitude, which instantly sets up new streams of possibility for you as you attune yourself to other frequencies and probabilities.
When I checked today, his book was available for $10 at Amazon. Not too bad for a very good book:

The Trick to Money Is Having Some!
The three "action points" I've listed above may seem very simple, but they operate on both a basic and a profound level. By spending more and more of each day feeling good about yourself, you shake off the shadows of poor self-esteem which can prevent great financial opportunities from finding you. Once you recapture your inner glow, others will respond to you, and you never know just what job offer might come your way or what gifts you might attract from others.
Putting yourself in beautiful environments and retraining your mind to focus on possibilities instead of lack are also key to accessing more abundant financial frequencies.
Lipstick Mystic at the Ritz-Carlton
I want to share an example from my own life. Some years ago, the dot.com crash had happened and websites were no longer willing to pay me top dollar as a freelance writer. I'd been doing very well writing for magazines and websites and, perhaps, was taking it all for granted! So the universe created a downturn in the economy and suddenly I had to think of new ways of marketing my ideas and my services.
My honey was just leaving a position at a big firm and had a small vacation fund that he needed to use up. If he didn't use it right away, he would lose that money. We didn't have much time in our schedule to go away for a week, so we decided to do something different. We spent it all on a brief weekend at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Central Park South in New York. We'd always wanted to stay there, and now was our chance.
We soaked up the refined, beautiful environment, the lovely architecture, the world-class service, and the sinfully wonderful fluffy beds and finely-appointed bathroom (the bathroom was the size of my last apartment!) We sniffed, slept, and breathed abundance for two days, and something seemed to go "click" inside of me as I made that transition into a more luxurious environment.
I came home after our stay at the Ritz-Carlton to a phone call from a magazine editor who had an immediate assignment for me for a huge amount of money. The money she was going to pay me was the same amount we spent during our stay at the Ritz-Carlton. And I didn't know this editor, either -- she had somehow found my information and decided she immediately needed to hire me for this big job.
I look back on that and I can see how I had mentally and emotionally made a transition into embracing a more abundant way of looking at life during our brief stay at this world class hotel. It was just enough of a transition to send out a vibration of expecting more abundance to show up in my life - and it worked!
So I'm a big believer in placing yourself in settings that uplift you, whether an outdoor paradise (nature can also make you feel relaxed and abundant) or a more man-made space with aesthetic qualities that uplift the spirit.
So maybe you can't afford the Ritz-Carlton, but I'll bet there are lovely places around you within driving distance. Visit them. Go to that free art museum, visit that sculpture garden, have a cup of tea at a fine hotel or art gallery. These things will trigger feelings within you that you belong in a reality that is lovely and supportive of you.
To return to the symbolism in your reading, I want to stress that the broken necklace shape is simply a psychic reflection that you have gone through your share of financial trauma, but it is also a hopeful sign which hints at the repairs and healing to come. It's up to you to say, "I'm ready to fix this necklace. Universe, how do we proceed?" And by following some of the simple -- even silly -- cues I've listed here, you'll gather more energy and steam to help propel you to a higher state of abundance.
In short, you can do it! You are not your past. You are a spiritually sovereign, immensely creative being, a spark of God/Goddess/a Higher Power, and you are capable of manifesting something better for yourself.
The Lipstick Mystic says DO IT. And I'll be cheering you on all the way! :)
